The ADVANCED EMR® movement joint is an elastomeric in metal runner resin encapsulated joint system and conforms to the requirements of BA26/94 and BD33/94

The joint system has three main components, the elastomeric rubber insert, the carrier rails and the ADVANCED EMR® RESIN compound, used to encapsulate and anchor the joint .

It accommodates horizontal, rotational and transverse movements. The ADVANCED EMR® joint accommodates a range of horizontal movement up to 150mm ( ± 75 mm ) with differing seal sizes and resin widths.

EMR joint system with steel carrier rails held in position by temporary works awaiting the installation of EMR resin mortar nosins. Once the resin mortar has cured the temporary works are stripped away and the neoprene insert is installed.

Typical cross section

The ADVANCED EMR® RESIN is designed specifically to act as an encapsulation resin for bridge expansion joints. It is a three part component reactive resin based on epoxy-urethane, blended with inert graded fillers. It has good flow properties when mixed to ensure all interstices around rails, fixings and rebar are filled. It exhibits excellent adhesion to galvanised or electroplated steel and to the prepared surfaces of concrete and consolidated bituminous surfacing. It is stress absorbing and resistant to impact shock. It does not flow in hot weather and retains its characteristics in very cold conditions.

The carrier rails are manufactured from structural carbon/manganese steel conforming to European standards and can be galvanised for corrosion protection. They have a series of grooves on the outside face to aid adhesion to the encapsulation resin. Two rows of rebar set at obtuse angles and welded to the rails to ensure the joint is securely held within the resin. If required the joint can be fixed directly to the bridge deck by a system of fixings through the nuts welded to the rebar . Kerb units are purpose built for each installation and welded on site to the straight rail sections.

The elastomeric rubber insert, manufactured from EPDM, is flexible, strong and durable. It is installed in one continuous length ensuring a watertight seal. The insert can be easily replaced in the event of damage without the need to replace any other parts. The joint accommodates bridge jacking without replacement.

ADVANCED EMR® JOINT FEATURES

The unique design of the carrier rails together with the adhesive qualities of the ADVANCED EMR® RESIN ensures a secure anchorage for the joint.

A continuous rubber insert without joins provides a waterproof joint.

Corrosion protection of all metal parts combined with resin encapsulation resists attacks from water and salt and provides a maintenance free system.

In built joint drainage aids the dispersal of sub surface water.

The rapid curing grade of ADVANCED EMR® RESIN ensures a fast and efficient installation of the joint.

Low noise emission.
