The TU30 buried joint is designed for movements up to ± 15mm. The continuous rubber extrusion covers the complete length of the joint gap providing a water tight seal. A steel insert covers the movement gap and provides support for the joint between the abutment and structure. The expansion joint is fastened to the structure with anchors and clamping strips. Thus a superior non-maintenance joint is provided which should not need replacement even in the event of resurfacing. This joint is especially suitable for free draining surfacing |

The extruded rubber of the TU30 is made of SBR. It is impervious to chemical attack from gritting salt, bitumen, oil or petrol. It is heat resistant and impervious to damage during the laying or relaying of the surfacing materials. All steel parts are made from high grade steel and protected from corrosion by galvanising. The TU30 joint conforms to the requirements of BA26/94 and BD33/94 and is a HIGHWAY AGENCY SA1 approved joint |

Before installation, a smooth even layer of resin is applied to both sides of the expansion joint. The TU30 can installed flush with the existing surface. It is, however, recommended that the expansion joint is embeded in a shallow recess. To alleviate cracks in the surfacing above the gap, a geotextile sheet is placed above the joint between the base course and wearing course with an elastic filler formed in the asphalt above the expansion gap. The total thickness of surfacing directly above the expansion gap should be at least 80mm. |
